Coming soon
This online course on the History of Tango offers a comprehensive and engaging journey through one of the most influential cultural expressions to emerge from South America and reach the world.
From its origins in the late 19th century to its presence in the 21st century, the course explores how tango was born in the RĂo de la Plata region and how it evolved musically, socially, and culturally over more than three centuries.
Participants will discover the early musicians and orchestras, the major stylistic periods—Guardia Vieja, Guardia Nueva, the Golden Age, and the avant-garde—as well as contemporary tango. Special attention is given to the poets and lyricists, the themes of tango songs, and the historical and social contexts that shaped this music and its meanings.
The course presents tango not only as music and dance, but as a cultural language that reflects migration, urban life, memory, and identity. Through its global journey, tango became a shared cultural heritage and was eventually recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Designed for an international audience, the course includes:
- Videos, written materials, music, images, and clear explanations, making it accessible to both newcomers and those wishing to deepen their understanding of tango.
- An invitation to understand, listen to, and experience tango, from its origins in Buenos Aires and Montevideo to its worldwide presence today.
